BIOGRAPHY

Syd Heather is an award-winning writer/director and creative producer with over a decade of experience delivering bold, genre-blending stories across narrative film, documentary and branded content.

Known for fusing humour, heart and social commentary with visual flair and British quirks, his short films span horror, comedy-drama and docu-fiction. His work has screened at BAFTA and BIFA-qualifying festivals including FrightFest, LSFF, BFI Future Film Festival, Encounters and Leeds International, and has been distributed by Shorts International, Omeleto and Peccadillo Pictures.

As a producer, Syd has delivered content for Screen South, BBC Arts, BFI, The Arts Council, Amazon Launchpad, Hasbro UK and Confused.com, alongside training and education work for institutions including Canterbury Christ Church University and NIAB.

He is the co-founder of Squid Shack Studios, a Kent-based production company currently supported by Create South East and The Kent Foundation.

A passionate advocate for regional stories, Syd released his debut feature Micropubs - The New Local in 2020 - now streaming worldwide - and is currently in post on a second feature doc about independent cinemas in coastal Kent.

Syd is now developing his debut fiction feature Hush Little One, a true-crime inspired folklore horror with Rebel Yeah!, starring Mandip Gill (Doctor Who, Curfew) and Alexander Lincoln (In From The Side, This Bitter Earth). His latest producing credit is Man Baby, a surreal horror-comedy feature starring Divian Ladwa (Detectorists), is slated for a festival release in 2025.
